Who is Unbranded and how are we different?

The cost of seed corn is becoming outrageous. Most of the world’s corn germplasm is controlled by major chemical companies. While they have owned genetics and in-house breeding programs, they exist to sell traits and chemicals. The cost of developing those traits is high, which gets passed on to you in the form of expensive bags of seed. The seed isn’t the expensive part of that equation, the trait is. Smaller, independent seed companies, on the other hand, don’t have the same level of overhead as a major chemical company, but they don’t own their own genetics. They pay exorbitant licensing fees to the chemical company to use their genetics. The cost of this license gets passed on to you, raising the cost of seed. All of this, the licenses, the overhead, the expense, isn’t getting better. The cost of a bag of seed just keeps rising. So, how do we break that mold? We own our own propriety corn germplasm and run our own independent breeding program (a program that was started in the 1970s and has been actively improved every year since). We aren’t developing traits or chemicals, our overhead is incredibly low, and we pay licensing fees to nobody. To you, the grower, this means: we can run a healthy, sustainable, business while offering you current, industry leading genetics at an affordable price (often for less than half what a competitor would charge). There are “cheap” seed companies out there that can sell at similar prices, so what makes us different than them? Most of these “cheap” seed companies are selling outdated, off-patent genetics that are 20 years old. That isn’t us. We’re actively developing current genetics that yield competitively (often beating) with any of the top genetics from the major providers. Sound too good to be true? It isn’t. We’re just very fortunate to have good plant breeders working with good, independent genetics in a low overhead environment. Don’t expect us to give you a four-wheeler, or send you on a cruise. We won’t offer you a 2-for-1 discount. No gimmicks, just seed.
